I promise the cheesy titles will cease once I have landed in Prague. Unfortunately, all must suffer until then. So, yep. Prague. I had been planning for Shanghai for the past 8 months, but when it came to two weeks before departure and things were still looking rocky, we began to explore some other options. I had an amazing phone conference with Gwen at Peacework who had a perfect project in mind for me dealing with a Burmese organization and international law. Working with both organizations, I will be writing grants, planning for capacity building, and brainstorming ways to create a youth diaspora focused on Burmese human rights and humanitarian aid. Given the cyclone hitting Burma just two days before, and the fact that the military junta would continue to try to pass its constitution through that same week, I thought the project seemed pretty timely. So, I had to make a quick decision - which for me is a near impossibility - and I felt like I couldn't pass up the opportunity or Peacework's amazing planning and staff or the short train ride to Poland. Shanghai worked out in the end (Tim will still be having great adventures there - cannot wait to see those very special Flat Stanley pics), and I am excited about both of our opportunities.
So, lots of rearranging (thank you, Joe) and wardrobe changes later (try 74 degrees instead of 110 degrees and ninety percent humidity), I'm leaving for Prague in a few hours. I am terrible at blogging because I can never sit long enough to write things. . .but I will try my best. Make two little wishes, prayers, or sacrifices to the Gods today - 1) Please let Sara's suitcase weigh less than 50 pounds, and 2) Please let the homestay have internet so that Sara's mom won't flip out by not hearing from Sara for 48 hours. :) I appreciate it.
All the best to my other buddies in their amazing locations. . .
